2016 3/9 Weekly Update

Meetings: We will have our regular open play meeting this Saturday, 3/12, starting at 10:00 a.m. in the coffee shop area of the Books-A-Million store at the Lycoming Mall.

Tournaments

  • CANCELLED – the USCF-rated quad tournament scheduled for Saturday, March 19th is cancelled.
  • The current women’s world champion, Mariya Muzychuk, is defending her title against the challenger (and former two time world champion), Hou Yifan, in the 2016 Women’s World Chess Championship Match in Lviv, Ukraine. After 5 rounds the match score is 2-3 in favor of the challenger. http://lviv2016.fide.com/
  • From the website of the World Chess Candidates Tournament: “The World Chess Candidates taking place from March 10-30, 2016, will determine the challenger for the 2016 World Chess Championship. Eight of the world’s top grandmasters come to Moscow to play in the tournament that will be contested as a double round-robin over 14 games. The winner will play a match for the title against reigning World Champion Magnus Carlsen next November in the US.” http://moscow2016.fide.com/#intro
